Voices in the Field: Stories from Antarctica and the Arctic

Experience the sounds and senses of the remote polar regions through audio of actual scientists (and penguins!), in the field. The recordings were created as a companion to complement and support the "Earth: A Tactile View of the Blue Marble" book.

Voices in the Field with Dr. Rachel Tilling

Dr. Rachel Tilling is a sea ice scientist with the Cryospheric Sciences Laboratory at NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center. Her research focuses on using satellites to monitor changes in the global sea ice cover. Rachel's research has taken her on expeditions to the Arctic and Antarctic with the European Space Agency (ESA) and British Antarctic Survey (BAS), where she investigates ground-based radar measurements over sea ice for satellite validation.

 

Voices in the Field with Dr. Linette Boisvert

Dr. Linette Boisvert is a sea ice scientist at NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center in the Cryospheric Sciences Lab. Linette has been a member of the Cryospheric Sciences Lab and also served as the Deputy Project Scientist for NASA’s Operation IceBridge airborne campaign from 2018-2019. She studies the Arctic sea ice and its interactions with the atmosphere, specifically exchanges of heat and moisture from the sea ice and ocean into the atmosphere and how these are changing due to climate change.
